After lunch , visit the most importat museums of Madrid. The entry is always free on Saturdays and also with the Madrid Card . This walk is called Paseo del Arte .
The first museum to visit is the Centro de Arte Reina Sof í a , whose entrance is free from . Saturday, from to 9pm and Sundays from 10am to . This modern art museum is famous for Guernica by Pablo Picasso.
Next museum is the Thyssen-Bornemisza . Here there is the private collection of the Barons Thyssen-Bornemisza. An unmissable gem of art. The last museum is the Museo del Prado , free on Saturdays until 8pm. My suggestion is to plan well your visit to the Prado. The museum is really great and perhaps a whole day would not be enough to visit it. However, there are some works that are “musts”, such as Goya and Bosch with its surrealistic visions.
The conversion to Islam was a slow, gradual process, with almost 600 years of resistance. Most of the architecture of the period are mosques built of mud-bricks . One of the first attempt at conquest was by Egyptian-Nubian, Ibn Abi Sarh. Ibn Abi Sarh was a Muslim leader who tried to conquer all Nubia in the 8th century AD. It was almost a complete failure. An agreement called the Baqt, shaped Egyptian-Nubian relations for six centuries, and permitted the construction of a mosque in the Nubian capital of Dongola for Muslim travelers. By the middle of the 14th century, Nubia had been converted to Islam. The royal Church of Dongola was converted into a mosque. Numerous other churches were converted to mosque.
The Church of San Francisco el Grande was built in 1761 for a Franciscan friary. The church was designed by Fray Francisco Cabezas, who modeled the architectural plan on the Church of Santa Maria in Campitelli in Rome . The Neoclassical facade and dome were added in 1770. The interior features a circular plan with an inspiring dome and six chapels. The chapels display paintings by Maella, Velázquez, and Goya. In the first chapel on the left are Goya's San Bernardino , and Velázquez's Saint Bonaventure and The Appearance of the Virgin to Saint Anthony. The church also contains a painting of Saint Bonaventure by Zurbarán. The church museum displays a variety of religious art and artifacts.
